31 December 2008
Here we are, New Year's Eve. The past year seemed to have vanished on me... but I say that every December 31st so I should be used to the sensation of time whooshing by.
...
I'm sitting here trying to think of something terribly interesting and fun to blog about, since it is the last day of the year and all and felt I should post something significant... but this blasted cold that I've been bogged down with over the last 2 weeks has sucked out my creative juices and ambition to do anything at all. So instead I'm going to do something lame and cliche, okay? No, not New Year resolutions, I don't do that. Instead, I bring you...
A TOP TEN LIST!! WHOO HOOOOOOOOOIn a painstaking, mathematically calculated process, I've picked my favorite photos that I shot over the past year. It feels a little self-centered, but the point of this ridiculous blog is to LEARN and DO BETTER at what I love to do. And I think I HAVE learned a lot, and I want these photos to show that. I tried to be impartial and pick the ones that were technically the best (with the limited knowledge I possess). I won't bore you with the mumbo-jumbo about why I picked each one...
so here they are, in no particular order.

Yeah, 5 of them are of my offspring, but like I said, I
tried to be impartial. :)
So, Happy New Year. I've got this weird, fuzzy, tingly feeling that something major is going to rock our family in 2009... I don't know what, but something's gonna happen. See you in January!

Merry Christmas!!
22 December 2008
Just a couple shots of random Munchy goodness. I'm trying to get in the habit of posting pictures the day/the day after I take them... it sounds so simple yet having the dedication to do it is tough for me! (I think a new year's resolution has been realized here)

Finally, after how many months of struggling with her and almost giving up, she decided over the weekend to walk!! She doesn't even crawl or bum around anymore. I think she's realized that it's faster and a more efficient use of energy to use two limbs instead of four to get herself around. HOORAY!!!

It was Tuesday. It was a Tuesday like most Tuesdays; unassuming, uneventful, and uninteresting.
Wait. What's that? Hark! A gray shadow lurks by the front window...

A brave volunteer decides to investigate...

Haha, I am not afraid! Prepare to be uncloaked! I, the unfearful one, unmask thee!!
Leave me in peace! I spurn thy aggressive advances and strike thee in fierce retaliation!!
Until we meet again, infidel.

This past Sunday, Munchkin had her first opportunity to razzle-dazzle us in her new Christmas dress. She dazzled her daddy so much that he immediately wanted me to change her into pants and a sweater... why?
"I just envisioned her all dressed up, on her way to prom. She's not allowed to grow up!" Awww. I agree that she looks quite precious.

I love her blingy shoes! And her first shoes with heels. Yikes, she is growing up too fast.

Where's my dang time machine??

So. In a word, I'd had it.
Had it with fighting over combing, washing, de-tangling (or trying to), and losing nearly every time with a strong-willed three year old. As beautiful and luxurious as it was, it was time for it to go. So I (bravely?) took out the trimmer and, after a moment's hesitation (gosh I loved those locks!) went to it. In retrospect, I kinda liken the experience to a farmer shearing sheep...
One last look at that lovely head of hair. *sniff*

And after... as you can see he was not impressed with me.

I miss his hair, though he looks so much more grown up now with his crew cut. His daddy hates it... he was visibly upset that I had made this decision without consulting him, or at least warning him in advance. For about a week after, he would keep pouting, "I miss his hair" or "his haircut's dumb", etc. I kept trying to explain why I did it, and that I had very valid reasons for cutting it... after all, IT'S JUST HAIR. IT WILL GROW BACK.
I was sick of my own hair too. I desperately needed a cut. It had been about 6 months since the last time, so it definitely needed to get done. And since it had been about a year or so that I'd had it colored, I could justify getting highlights too.
This time I opted for pink. :D

Truthfully, I've been wanting to dye my hair pink since I was 16. Over my late teens and into my early twenties, my hair had gone through almost the entire spectrum save for the more "wild" colors like green, blue, and pink. Every month it would change, from platinum blonde to chocolate burgundy the next. And as I got older, I thought that I wouldn't be able to pull off such a crazy color, and sort of put that desire on the shelf... until last week, when I decided to just do it. And I love it!! I think it actually SUITS me.

Learning to live life with no regrets is liberating and satisfying. :)

Hi. I'm Melissa.
Welcome to my humble abode on the interweb!
I'm a wife and stay-at-home mom. My life is not exactly thrilling, but it is my life. And I choose to love it. Every day.
My dream is to become a professional photographer (one day...), but for now, I only aspire to gain experience and learn learn LEARN.
I write about my life here and there, post things that catch my fancy, and random things that distract me.
I appreciate any and all feedback, I just want to improve on my fledgling photo skills, and on myself in general.
I hope you enjoy.
Emails are like chocolate chip cookies, made of ones and zeros.
If you are feeling generous, you can send one to me
